Come sit with me for awhile . . .
and see what I’m bringing to the table ©
I try squinting my eyes, in order to filter out Mother Nature’s yearly ritual. The ritual that inevitably takes place as summer gently comes to a close. Every year this gentle dance quietly begins to partake in one of Mother Nature’s yearly cycles. Yes, there will still be hot, sultry days, intermittently blended with hints of cooler days to come . . . of course! But, there is no mistaking the subtle introduction of crisper breezes, as the sun takes its nightly leave. As the warmth and carefree feeling of summer slowly fades into shortened daylight, I bring great news!!! What could be such great news? Now this is a positive question, since you have asked the one person (me), who can give you the real skivvy about transitioning from season to season, without being traumatized! Have you checked out the above photo yet? No? Hmm . . . And here I have always thought that pretty pictures trump the written word . . . lesson learned. So, the above photo has what I refer to as ‘transitional tablescaping’ . . . Stop . . . don’t go running to your dictionary, because the newly created phrase by me will not be in there. Whoa! Easy people. If a bunch of self proclaimed nerds sitting in a valley somewhere, can make up words and phrases . . . then I think all is fair in the world of creativity . . . right? Soooo . . . you say where does the transition come in? Ahhh . . . that’s an easy one. Just like the changing, and falling of the leaves, so comes the shifting of color ways. By accenting blue with crisp white napkins, the tablescape still remains summer like, with a hint of change on its way. The deeper shade of blue, as seen below, will now do double, and triple duty in the months to come.
Now take a blue place setting, mix it up with dusty rose, or striped cream and charcoal, and watch the transition to what I call the warmer tones. (Not to be confused with warmer weather). This mix is not as bright, and sunny, as the first photo, but one of softening tones, moving toward shorter daylight, and longer evenings. Evenings that demand dimmed lights, soft music, and long conversation by candlelight.
