Dishing it up/ with Sharon Insul

Come sit with me for awhile . . .
and see what I’m bringing to the table ®

Let them eat cake she shouted !!! .   .   . or did she ??? .   .   . nah ah .   .   . contrary to the legend fed us (a pun well intended) Marie Antoinette wife of King Louis XVI did not .   .   . I repeat did not utter those words according to historians. Poor woman .   .   . who knows if she even got cake !!! Hmmm?

People .   .   . you haven’t got time to shilly-shally around .   .   . this is the time of year to pull out all of the stops, and give your masses what they really want!!! .   .   . relax, I’m here .   .   . shhh .   .   . breathe .   .   . that’s it, nice even calming breaths .   .   . There is one thing that I do know for certain .   .   . that my Winter Wonderland sweet table is chock- full of all kinds of naughty, and nice!  Soooo I say .   .   . what they really, really want is   .   .   . sugar, and spice, and everything nice. Knock’em out-of-the-box cookies, candy so outrageous that it should come with a .   .   . caution, addictive, warning sign.  And above all .   .   . let them eat cake! Angel food cake as light and fluffy as the fluttering wings of an angel. Fruitcake that has been rum drenched, and coddled to peak perfection, marshmallows hand dipped in lemon icing, and, and, and,  .   .   . o k, o k .   .   . I hear you, I do get carried away! I’m sure you’ve got the idea. Now I don’t expect your list of goodies to be the same as mine .   .   . but if it is .   .   . mm mmm (sounds of me clearing my throat) .   .   .  then you haven’t so much as stuck your toe out-of-the-box .   .   . let alone done a full body step out-of-the-box! Oh please .   .   . this is easier than learning to ride a bike!!! I know you all can do this .   .   . really!

If you haven’t looked closely at my first photo, take a second to click, and peruse. To get it together, you need to dig out any, and all pedestal dishes, bowls, fancy schmancy, or not so fancy schmancy plates. Clay pots that you can line with remnant fabric, or paper doilies. Don’t have a wooden cheese tray, then use a few glazed tiles that are inexpensive, easy to find, and make great serving dishes. Going for a table on the casual vibe .   .   . oh please that’s a piece of cake!!! Yes, yes I know .   .   . what can I say? Play on words seem to be part of my DNA!!!  Am I hearing some chatter in the distance? Patience people, I’m moving on .   .   . try clay pots, earthenware platters, simple tile squares. I have used stacks of kindling size wood arranged at different heights to hold trays of goodies. The idea is to create different heights, by using inverted bowls, glasses,  clay pots, as well as stacking tiles (if used) to create different plateaus, so that each dessert has it’s own place in the glow of your tons of tapers. Yes, permission granted .   .   . light it up  .   .   . because this is not a sit down table .   .   . so no worries as to sight lines .  .  .  go for the gusto, and add tons of candles,* and candle holders of different heights, but .   .   . mindful of placement of flames .   .   . not to close to hands going for your goodies.   See .   .   . easy peasy!!! Now click on the photo below to see how I intertwine my table top books, with accent decor pieces.

Whether it’s a sit down dinner, buffet, or one of my  all out OMG food orgies .   .   . I always take full advantage of my sideboard (http://wp.me/p3E2rZ-jg), by tucking more edible  goodies in between art books, and doodads. My beverage station is set up on my Vintage Mesquite kitchen table. By having multiple food/beverage areas my guests are afforded as much mobility as possible. I am always looking for that unexpected, and delightful surprise in life .   .   . you all know what I’m talking about. The surprise waiting to be discovered,  just around the next corner. I like giving my guests that same feeling of excitement, while foraging for those unexpected surprise morsels .   .   . here, there, and everywhere!!!

*Don’t forget to trim wicks to between 1/4″ to 3/8″ in length each time before burning.
