Dishing it up / with Sharon Insul

Come sit with me for awhile . . .
and see what I’m bringing to the table ®

Shhhh .   .   . Listen .   .   . do you hear it??? .   .   . No? .   .   . Nothing? .   .   . Mmmm .   .   . Listen once more please .   .   . that’s right .   .   . nothing!!!  Yay .   .   . hallelujah !!! What you are experiencing is what’s commonly referred to as .   .   .  silence!  Wow .   .   . what a novel concept!!!  This, people is the miracle of memory, while unbeknownst to your conscious state of mind,  you have deliciously, and gently slipped back into what I commonly refer to as a ‘sliver of solitude’. But, until that last Thanksgiving dish, napkin, fork, and candleholder has been put back into its rightful place of honor .   .   . silence, and solitude will still remain a distant memory.

Alas, you have just entered the zone of decompression. The excitement, chatter, hustle bustle, and moments of panic attacks are well behind you, although not for long. Oh please .   .   . I’m not trying to spoil your new found peace, and tranquility.   .   .  Scout’s honor! I’m not the one who strung all of these holidays so close together!!!

The above photo, can be clicked on for sleuthing, and is a tablescape of calm, serenity, quiet conversation, and leftovers. Yes, of course leftovers, no matter how you whip it, flip it, chop it, slice it, dice it, or sauce it .   .   .  I don’t know about you people, but I go out of my way to make more than enough to have leftovers. By the by, as I’m sure most of you know .   .   . the turkey carcass makes mighty fine soup. This table is just for the 2 of us .   .   . yup!  In front of my fireplace, covered in a wonderful needlepoint textile, dug out from my treasure trove of goodies, collected over the years, and found in some of the most outlandishly strange places around the world.

IMG_6268My off centerpiece‘, shown above, is uniquely whimsical in design, giving my table for 2 a feeling of having been whisked away while asleep, to a 5 star mountain lodge. The actual off centerpiece’ is a playful hand painted pedestal bowl, depicting a watchful fox on one handle, and an ever vigilant hare on the other handle. As in life there is the abyss separating these two adversaries, giving me the perfect opportunity to fill’er up, with pine cones, and glistening pears. I hear all of you .   .   . did I not proof read for type o’s???  What do I mean ‘off centerpiece’.   .   . Let me enlighten you .   .   . using a relatively small square table, for this two person affair, one of whom would be me .   .   .  so whether I am serving leftover turkey, beluga caviar, or a tuna fish sandwich .   .   . it still must be visually pleasing .   .   . no doubt !!!  So the only way to place a decorative centerpiece on a very small table, without cutting off our conversation, our sight line with one another, or the warmth, and beauty of the fireplace .   .   . is to put it ‘off center’  .    .   . Ahhh .   .   . Now do you get it? .   .   .  I also added just a few votives, giving  this table a shimmer of softness, a promise of romance, and a hint of untold things to come. No matter how tiny the table .   .   . there will always be plenty of room for the mating dance .   .   . of flames      .   .   . at my table.
