Dishing it up / with Sharon Insul

Come sit with me for awhile . . .
and see what I’m bringing to the table ®

It’s nap time!!! No silly, not the shut eye kind. Not take a nap .   .   . but .  .   . talk naps! Sheesh!!!

Hmmm .   .   . let me put this another way. Ready? Please, open your eyes and pay attention. I want to talk to all of you about napkins .   . you know, the kind made of fabric, or .   .   . only if you insist .   .   . paper. The kind that you are supposed to put on your lap while eating, to hopefully catch any misdirected morsels of enjoyment that may head south from time to time, and yes, also used to keep the milk mustache etc. off your pretty faces. Hellloo .   .   . psst .   .   . yes, yes, I’m talking to you.  Why? Well I just want to make sure you haven’t nodded off, and missed the part about ‘I want to talk to all of you about napkins.  Phew!  Just checking, because there are sooo many of you out there in different time zones, that could be close to nodding off. I have faith that you will fight off sleep for my pearls of wisdom .   .   . right??? Oh please no answer is necessary .   .   . because I like living in my semi-fantasy world of all is good. Thank you!

Whether using a simple folded napkin, or some over the top design, as seen in my photo below .   .   . think fabric, fabric, fabric. The best napkins are made of natural fabrics.  Cotton, and soft linens are your best bet for absorbency, and wear, not to mention comfort. I don’t know about some of you out in reader land .   .   . but I need a gentler world when it comes to my skin .   .   . please leave the sandpaper out in the tool shed!!!  The photo below is from one of my winter tablescapes. If you look closely you’ll see a double napkin setting     .   .   .  the top one is made of cotton voile, that I use for show .   .   .  while the inside one is for use.

O k people, here is the info that I know you all have been dying to read about. Since there are many sizes that serve different purposes, I will give it to you as straight forward , and unadulterated as possible. Four to 5″ inch squares are generally used for cocktails and assorted nibbles, 13″ to 16″squares are the perfect size for tea time, and ladies luncheons, while 18″to 20″ squares are perfect for a bit less dainty lunches, and casual/ informal dinners. This takes us to the more formal sizes of 22″, 24″, and 26″ square napkins, that are generally doing service to  an intense multi-course dinner, or a much needed coverup for a buffet that requires guests balancing their plate precariously. Whether you opt for cloth or fabric .   .   . it’s infinitely better than some kids’ alternative .   .   . !!!
