Come sit with me for awhile . . .
and see what I’m bringing to the table ®
Don’t anyone panic! . . . I know, I know you really meant to get it together, but . . . blah blah blah . . . and . . . the dog chewed the door pull right off your linen cabinet door!!! Your handyman promised faithfully to open the door for you . . . when he can get to it! Oh please . . . I know how some of you roll . . . or not. Stay calm . . . Shhhh. . . breathe . . . it’s o k really. I’m here . . . I’ve got you covered . . . but not your table.
I am going to assume that your cabinet door has miraculously been fixed, and you now have the coveted Thanksgiving tablecloth, and napkins in your hot little hands! . . . Bravo! Listen since we’re on a roll . . .Why don’t you mosey on over to your china/dish cabinet, and pull those puppies right out into the open? Pssst! While you’re at it. . . glasses, silverware . . . I’ll wait . . . remember I said I’m here for you. Mission accomplished? There you go . . . see, not so bad . . . right???
I am allowing for a three minute respite, while you recover from all the work I put you through. For the above tablescape, I used a cloth of taupe colored linen, accented with off white embroidered leaves. My added touches of warmth comes from a collection of vintage pot metal candle holders, and decorative pieces placed throughout the table. An important thing to keep in mind when placing candle holders, on a dinner table . . . You need to sit in every seat around the table, to check for sight lines. No one wants to be left out of the loop, because they can’t see past, or over the candle holders, and centerpiece.
Rest period is over . . . no more resting . . . yet! Wait, did I just hear some distant grumbling??? You thought you were done . . . hello . . . does your table look done? Here is a question for you . . . what did you plan on putting on the table for decoration? Ahhh haaa! . . . Pheww . . . so glad I didn’t lose you so close to the finish line!
Please click on the above photo to get a more detailed look of my centerpiece. Did you look closely? I mean really up close, and in your face??? Are you ready??? . . . Well, what you are looking at . . . drum roll please . . . rat-a-tap-tap . . . is . . . a lamp shade. Ah yes, you did read it correctly. Go ahead look again . . . I’ll wait. In last weeks blog (http://wp.me/p3E2rZ-lA) I said, your centerpiece can start with anything from a bowl, basket, or a bale full of twigs. Lol, so I snuck in a ringer! . . . yes, yes . . . I am having fun.
Creating should be done with a tongue in cheek sense of humor, and a giggle in your heart. Having said that, how else am I going to keep you on your toes, and moving? No harm, no foul, this idea is good for anytime, anywhere, and any theme. I fell in love with the graphics that soooo work with the Fall/Thanksgiving season, and knew it would give one of my tablescapes a . . . zippity . . . shazam . . . and a . . . ta-dah . . . look at me . . . that I strive for, while keeping an eye on the height factor. No blocking the flow!!! Part of the materials used to create my surprise piece came from Mother Nature’s gift that I happily gathered from outside. I then added a mix of very realistic looking faux leaves, as well as stalks of soft looking wheat. In fact, when the candles were set ablaze, and the flames began to dance, you would swear that you just saw the wheat swaying to the same mystical tune. Ahhh . . . what tune you ask? Oh sorry, that one is only heard by flames, and wheat stalks.
Don’t forget to trim all candle wicks to between 1/4″ to 3/8″ in length before burning. Worried about drips on your table . . . now is the time to search your stack of plates, and small trays to sit under candle holders. Get creative!!!!!!!!
