Come sit with me for awhile . . .
and see what I’m bringing to the table ®
Oh no! . . . What to do?… What to do? Not everyone can make it to Thanksgiving dinner.
Wait . . . I’ve got it! . . . Let’s have a ‘Thanksgiving interlude’ . . . an interlude you say! Yes people, an interlude. Between Halloween and Thanksgiving is a wasteland of uncelebrated days, 26 to be precise. That’s enough time to feed a small army of friends, and family. Don’t get excited, calm down, it was merely me making a point. Breathe . . . go ahead take one more breath . . . there you go, all better.
My suggestion of doing the ‘Thanksgiving Interlude’, comes from a well implemented practice that I have actually repeated many, many times successfully. Yes, yes, I get that it would be wonderful to have all those nearest, and dearest to us at one BIG Plymouth Rock sit down, come Thanksgiving Day. Not happening . . . Why ???. . . because . . . for example, let’s call her SuzyQ, and she wants to go to her mother’s, while Johnny Joe really in his heart of hearts wants his mother’s turkey, and stuffing . . . BUT . . . he’s not looking for a divorce over a turkey dinner! Right!!! Or how about this one ?. . . Your best friend would rather die than spend Thanksgiving without you, her cohort in all major day to day goings on, however, her family trumps deep dark shared secrets, along with shoe shopping. So people suck it up, deal with it, and go with the art of calming the waters, and smoothing ruffled feathers . . . so having said all of the above, let’s move on.
I am calling this particular interlude . . . ‘Rocking Big Plymouth’. As seen in above photo, I have selected a tablescape of Fall colors, and patterns that I will use for my Thanksgiving Interlude. This upcoming gathering is for all those on my list of friends, and family who for whatever reason will not be indulging in my Big Plymouth Rock feast. The photo below is of my almost finished tablescape. Go ahead, don’t be shy . . . click on it and take in the components that make up this pre-Thanksgiving table. The first layer is a deep, rich forest green pattern on pattern French cloth. Hold on . . . you DO NOT have to have a fancy schmancy French cloth. Your base cloth can be any number of things, such as a sheet, blanket, quilt, even paper. The second layer, is a machine made inexpensive quilt, the third, and final cloth layer is a vintage velvet fringed shawl, that I threw onto the table. Mmmmm hmmmm . . . you read it correctly . . . I threw the shawl on, and where it lands is pretty much where it stays . . . wellll . . . maybe I helped the fringe a touch!! What can I say it’s in my DNA.
Forks and napkins (please not all the same color) are in mesh drawstring bags accented with a mix of napkin rings tied into the bow . . . yup . . . instead of the ho hum way of the rings holding the napkins. Soup chalices are all different colors as is the glassware. The centerpiece is a combination of fresh, and faux, leaves, and fruit nestled in a hand carved wooden basket. I have added many wonderful old patinated copper pieces, and candle holders throughout the table, giving the flames free reign to dance their magical ‘flights of fancy’ as they flicker, twinkle, and bounce off the many pieces of copper, and glass around the table. I am totally convinced that there is not one of you out in reader land that can’t pull a table like this off!!!!!!!
And by the way, are we really sure that THE big turkey day was indeed on the last Thursday in November? I don’t know about all of you, but . . . I can’t vouch for it since I wasn’t there . . . were you ???
Jour de l’Action de grâce in Canadian French, aka Thanksgiving Day, is a national holiday celebrated in Canada just as we do . . . and consider it a day of giving.
HAPPIEST OF TURKEY DAY TO ALL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
