Come sit with me for awhile . . .
and see what I’m bringing to the table ®
The agony and ecstasy of organization . . .
We’ve all been there at one time or another.
Be it life, location, a simple closet or even a drawer.
Because I am constantly mixing , matching, and designing new dining experiences, I decided to re-purpose an 8 foot long country counter, from upstairs to my dining room downstairs. To give myself better physical, and visual access to some of my dishes, and some accessories in one place . . . well, I think I may be ovvvver simplifying my stash a tad . . . o k maybe a lot . . . helllo . . . as soon as you’re done laughing . . . let’s just agree that I have lots of dishes, and move on, thank you!
Sooo… the cabinet was moved. Me? Oh no, definitely not! Two very strong, but not overly zealous participants between grunts, and sweat finally made it down the stairs. The photo above, is showing only one half of the cabinet. People are you getting the picture yet? . . . Now the agony began . . . there in the middle of my dining room table sat a portion of my cherished lovelies, just waiting for sanctuary. The desire to put it all back the way it originally was, so I could go run, and play, was at an all time high! How did I get myself into, this mess??? ‘Well Ollie, this is a fine mess you got us into this time’ Laurel from the old comedy act would say. Yes, I am fully aware that there was no Ollie involved . . . I get it !!!
So I alone forged ahead, mindful of my goal, and stacks, and stacks of fragile, and not so fragile dishes that were not . . . I repeat, were not going to organize, categorize, or hop up onto the shelf by themselves. Once my panic attack began to subside, i.e. pulse slowly returning back to normal, I did what I preach . . . BREATH! . . . Actually I did a whole lot of deep, deep breaths, and then miracles of miracles . . . I had morphed into the dish organization zone. I mean hip high, deep, dish toting, long forgotten dish discovery . . . Whoa !!!
Hmmmmm, wow . . . I had forgotten all about that one . . . AND . . . wow look at that other one . . . wait hold on! . . . what is that goodie tucked behind that fabulous soup tureen? A great serving platter, Ooh and ahhhing . . . I had forgotten all about that quirky set of very vintage small dishes . . . these puppies will be perfect for bread & butter in the upcoming tablescape. Stacks of precious flea market finds, almost as precious as life itself!!!!
People . . . has anyone noticed . . . I just transitioned into the ecstasy zone . . .
much like a test pilot thrust into Mach1 mode.
NOW I WAS INTO IT!!!
Amazing how a chain of events, such as moving one object from here to there, wherever there may be, not only has changed my visual environment, but also the way I view how I want to work with what I have in-house. O k, o k . . . so I admit to continuing the great treasure hunt, bringing coveted trophy, after trophy home, and of course still looking for yet another place to store my treasures.
It is amazing what treasures lie, pretty much under our very own fingertips. The place setting above came from my almost organized, almost easy to unearth serving pieces. Why almost . . . laughing out loud . . . because . . . I have other cupboards, shelves, and closets just waiting for my next archaeological expedition!
I am in the process of compiling a book, of how to get the best, and most out of the ordinary bits and pieces. Things we have been gifted, acquired, and discovered, bringing harmony and excitement together, while keeping an eye cast, out of the box.
With all that being said, I spotted one more shelf that needs some looking into . . . Till next time !
