What’s in your closet ???  Aww oh .   .   . Did I just hear a resounding closet, what closet???

The designated ‘out of sight out of mind closet ‘.   .   . that closet .   .   .The one that is the recipient of all ‘unwanted, can’t use, why would I want that‘ .   .   . stuff .   .   . yes, yes .   .   . that one .   .   . Uh huh .   .   . I see you’re beginning to remember .   .   . yes, the one in your spare room, attic, garage, or perhaps somewhere deeper .   .   . and I mean deeper .   .   . as in soooo deep you don’t want to go there .   .   . the dreaded basement where most castoffs go .   .   .  to the well intentioned land of, one day I’ll do something or other with Aunt Tilly’s things .   .   .

Oh please .   .   . I know you know what I’m talking about.  Do you really think I’m a country bumpkin out on my very first hay ride? O k so mayyyybe  you don’t have that extra junk closet per se .   .   . but I’ll bet you have a few drawers, shelves, and/or boxes filled with a few forgotten, or ignored goodies, just waiting to be brought into the sunlight, or candle light as the case may be. I get that you all don’t want to open that closet, and deal with all that stuff you’ve been shoving, or is it cramming in there. How do I know so much about these little make it go away places? Hello .   .   . I am a graduate of the .   .   . I’ll sort through all this one day school!!! Excuse me, where else would I get these hands-on pearls of wisdom?  People, people, tick-tock, tick-tock, time to take the plunge .   .   . I know you can do it .   .   .

See, that’s what I’m talking about .   .   . a piece of cake! .   .   . Ah ha !!! .   .   . zap .   .   . zing .   .   . wow zowie  .   .   .  a bolt of  lightening just illuminated your world!!!  YAY !!!  Hallelujah !!! .   .   . Welcome to the enlightened, and sunny side of the street. No more being confined to that ho hum, same old plate, silverware, napkin, and glass for you .   .   . no, no, no!!!  When found vintage, and forgotten goodies meet same old, day to day place settings .   .   .  the earth is reborn, birds sing, and all those empty dinning chairs are once again filled, because .   .   . everyone wants to .   .   .  Come sit with me for awhile … and see what I’m bringing to the table.®

For the place setting in my first photo, I choose one set of door knobs from my vintage collection*, with their original parts still holding the knobs together, just as they did in the 1800’s. For this particular tablescape, I rested the utensils needed for dinner right on to the shaft of the door knob ( this one is porcelain). Need a closer look, click on photos to enlarge. . On this particular setting I incorporated my grandmothers velvet fringed shawl, casually thrown over an antique linen with needlepoint tablecloth. My second photo, shows some of my collection. Use knobs to hold the various serving utensils, placed to the right of each dish when serving family style, or buffet. To protect table, or cloth use an interesting plate under the knobs to catch drips. Hang on there people .   .   . phewww!!! I’m glad I caught you before you turned me off  lol .   .   . heaven forbid. And yet another way to make great use of these decorative, and functional pieces, is to use them as knife stands. Make sure the shanks of the door knobs are very clea. These beauties can be had at flea markets, thrift stores, tag sales, and yes there are reproductions to be had as well .   .   .

* For best impact use different ones for each place setting. Start collecting!!!

Be creative, step out of the box,  dig deep into your cupboards, you will be amazed at what you will find, and love the fun look you created. Keep reinventing, and they’ll keep coming back to the table…

Til next time .   .   .
